Trainee SAA Dive Supervisors must have achieved the level of SAA Dive Leader, hold the SAA Diver Rescue Award and a current UK Sport Diver Medical Declaration Form. Candidates will complete a further 25 Qualifying Dives in a variety of conditions, with at least 12 sea dives.
The minimum Bottom Times for each dive is 15 minutes.
Candidates are limited to completing a maximum of two qualifying dives in a day, with no more that two qualifying dives at any dive site.
To qualify as a Dive Supervisor, candidates will be expected to have logged a furthur 10 hours underwater post Dive Leader grade and have experience of at least 5 of the following:
- 01 - Night Dive.
- 02 - Zero Visability Dive.
- 03 - Underwater Search.
- 04 - Recovery Excercise.
- 05 - Dive To 40 Meters.
- 06 - Dive with simulated Decompression Stops.
- 07 - "No Clear Surface" dive.
- 08 - Tropical Dive.
- 09 - Nautical Archaeology.
- 10 - Marine Conservation.
- 11 - Cavern Diving.
- 12 - Photography.
All trainee Dive Supervisors MUST attend the SAA Dive Supervisor Lectures DSL1 to DSL4:
- DSL1 - Duties of a Dive Marshall and Accident Management.
- DSL2 - An Introduction to Compressors.
- DSL3 - An introduction to Chartwork and Navigation Part 1 and Ropes.
- DSL4 - Chartwork and Navigation part 2.
DSS5 Skills
The Dive Supervisor Candidate must demonstrate the following skills in open water to the satisfaction of the Club DO:
- i. Plan and execute a four diving expeditions including two boat dives.
- ii. Plan and execute aroped diver operation acting as both tender and diver.
- iii. Plan and execute a simulated Stage-Stop at sea location for a group of at least six divers.
Once the above criteria has been met, the trainee may then move on to complete Dive Master Training.
